The 2026 General Instruction on Foreign Exchange Operations increases the allowance for business travel. For companies, cooperatives subject to corporate tax and branches registered with the Foreign Exchange Office that do not hold a foreign currency or convertible dirham account, the annual cap may reach one million dirhams.
Basis of calculation
The allowance corresponds to 100% of the corporate tax, income tax or minimum contribution paid in respect of the closed financial year, up to a limit of one million dirhams per calendar year. For operators categorised by the Foreign Exchange Office, the cap is raised to 1.5 million dirhams.
Amounts granted to employees on assignment must be supported by a mission order, a training decision or a company document setting out the identity of the beneficiary, the purpose, the duration and the expected costs. Where those documents do not quantify the costs, the Instruction provides for daily and per-trip limits.
In practice
Raising the cap does not remove the need to distinguish travel expenditure from the company's other international payments. Mission records, tickets, accommodation and advances must be reconciled with the accounts.
A growing business should also consider whether opening a foreign currency account or obtaining categorised operator status would change its position. The allowance is a regulated entitlement: using it for other purposes may raise a compliance issue during a foreign exchange audit.
