The 2026 General Instruction on Foreign Exchange Operations raises the overall cap on the personal travel allowance to MAD 500,000 per person per calendar year. The basic allowance remains set at MAD 100,000; the supplement may now reach MAD 400,000.

Calculating the supplement

The additional amount corresponds to 30% of the income tax paid or withheld at source in respect of the previous year. A taxpayer who bore MAD 200,000 of income tax may therefore claim a supplement of MAD 60,000, giving a total allowance of MAD 160,000. The overall cap remains MAD 500,000, even where 30% of the income tax exceeds MAD 400,000.

The arrangement is open to Moroccan resident individuals, to Moroccans living abroad and to resident foreign nationals, subject to the conditions set out in the Instruction.

Practical arrangements

The supplement may be applied for online through the Foreign Exchange Office's SMART platform. The bank or foreign exchange operator records the amounts provided in the allowance management system.

The annual cap does not mean that the full amount can be issued in banknotes for a single trip. The Instruction separately governs the issue of foreign currency in cash and the use of an international card. Identity and travel documents, together with the amount of income tax used for the calculation, should be checked before departure.
